“The assassination of Chérubin Okende in the DRC: the opposition calls for an independent international investigation”

The assassination of Chérubin Okende in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to spark tensions between the government and the opposition. While the government spokesman says that the investigations are following their normal course, the political party of the opponent Moïse Katumbi expresses its dissatisfaction with the slowness of the investigations.

Together for the Republic, the political party of Moïse Katumbi, is calling for the establishment of an independent multidisciplinary commission, with the support of Belgian and South African experts and the UN mission in the DRC. According to them, the Congolese justice is divested of the instruction of the file and an independent international investigation would be necessary to shed all the light on this assassination.

The political party also deplores the haste and agitation with which the Congolese justice communicated on this case. They point out in particular that the autopsy has not yet been performed, which is essential to determine the circumstances of death. They also criticize the fact that the General Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation has already announced a conclusion without an autopsy or serious investigation, thus violating the principle of the secrecy of the instruction.

Together for the Republic also draws a parallel with the assassination of human rights activist Floribert Chebeya and questions the similarities between the two cases. They demand that the real truth be revealed, that the assassins and their sponsors be found, and denounce any attempt to disorient public opinion.

The political party of Moïse Katumbi expresses its distrust of Congolese justice and is requesting extensive independent investigations from foreign chancelleries and Monusco.

This case highlights the ongoing tensions between the government and the opposition in the DRC, as well as the need for independent and transparent justice to resolve such criminal cases.

The country also hopes to be able to host the Francophone Games in Kinshasa. Preparations are underway, but challenges remain. Infrastructure is ready to host this large-scale sporting and cultural event, which promises to be an international showcase for the country.

In parallel, the DRC also opened a meeting of the SADC Committee of Ministers of Justice. This represents a major step towards regional integration and legal cooperation in the region.

In conclusion, the assassination of Chérubin Okende continues to arouse tensions in the DRC. The opposition is calling for an independent international investigation to shed light on this affair. The country is also preparing to host the Games of La Francophonie and is seeking to strengthen its regional cooperation in the legal field
