Joint operation of Congolese and Ugandan armed forces: a major victory against armed groups in eastern DRC

Title: Joint operation of the Congolese and Ugandan armed forces: an important step in the fight against armed groups in eastern DRC

Introduction :
In the struggle to restore security and stability in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a joint operation between the Congolese (FARDC) and Ugandan (UPDF) armed forces has been successfully carried out. This initiative testifies to the will of the two countries to put an end to the insecurity which prevails in the region. In this article, we review the positive results of this operation and the challenges ahead in the fight against armed groups in eastern DRC.

Objectives achieved thanks to fruitful collaboration:
The joint operation “Sokola 1 Grand Nord” has made significant progress in the fight against armed groups, in particular the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). Thanks to the cooperation between the FARDC and the UPDF, several objectives have been achieved. The recovery of the Kambi ya Jua and the RN4 of Beni-Kasindi, formerly infested with ADF ambushes, has allowed safer circulation for the population and their goods. These positive results underline the importance of close collaboration between the armed forces to guarantee the safety of civilians and the pacification of the region.

The need for continuous coordination:
Despite the significant advances, military officials recognize that much work remains to be done to completely eradicate armed groups in eastern DRC. To achieve this objective, it is essential that the FARDC and the UPDF continue to work together and speak with one voice on the front line. The coordination of actions and information is crucial to carry out the operations in progress.

A return to calm in the Ruwenzori region:
The joint operations also contributed to restoring calm in several entities in the Ruwenzori sector, in the territory of Beni. Not only have hundreds of hostages been freed, but the presence of armed forces has deterred armed groups from committing acts of violence. This allowed the population to resume their activities safely and created a favorable climate for the economic development of the region.

Conclusion :
The joint FARDC and UPDF operation in eastern DRC shows the significant progress made in the fight against armed groups. However, it is essential to maintain and strengthen this collaboration in order to consolidate the achievements and pursue the pacification of the region
