The scourge of insecurity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to wreak havoc, with dramatic consequences for the Congolese population. The east of the country is particularly affected by the presence of rebel groups, notably the Rwandan-backed M23, which threatens the stability of the North Kivu region. But this situation is no longer confined to the east, as evidenced by the growing phenomenon of kidnappings in Kinshasa, which plunges the urban population into constant fear.
These concerns are underlined by the Secular Coordination Committee (CLC), which is sounding the alarm in the face of a persistent security crisis that risks plunging the country into chaos. The shocking assassination of Chérubin Okende, national deputy and spokesperson for Ensemble pour la République, the political party of opponent Moïse Katumbi, is tragic proof that no one is immune to violence and instability. The CLC demands that justice be done and that those responsible for this heinous crime be identified and punished in an exemplary manner.
For the CLC, this assassination is also the reflection of a toxic political climate which poisons national life. The organization therefore calls for a return to appeasement and national solidarity, referring to the words of the Congolese national anthem “Le Debout Congolais”, thus reminding the Congolese population of their duty to support each other in the face of difficulties.
Dialogue is also presented as the only possible way out of this crisis. The CLC calls on the President of the Republic as well as the main political and social leaders of the country to come together around a table to find answers to the current challenges. Because only a united nation can hope to overcome the internal and external obstacles that threaten it.
This CLC call highlights the urgency of the situation in the DRC and highlights the need for collective awareness to overcome political divisions and work together to build a safer and more prosperous future for all Congolese. It is time to come together and face the challenges that arise, in order to restore confidence and peace in the country.
In conclusion, the security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is alarming and requires urgent action. The assassination of Chérubin Okende is a cruel reminder of the consequences of the instability and violence that reign in the country. It is imperative that all political and social actors work together to find lasting solutions to these problems, and thus allow the Congolese population to live in security and tranquility
