“Call for help for the community of Kidima following a devastating fire”

Devastating fire in Kidima: a community in distress calls for help

In the small town of Kidima, located 75 km from the territory of Lubao in the province of Lomami, a tragedy befell its inhabitants. On Tuesday, July 18, a bush fire of unknown origin broke out, ravaging about thirty residential houses, as well as a church and a public school.

Fortunately, no loss of human life was recorded. However, the material damage is considerable. In addition to the destroyed houses, large quantities of rice, nyebe and maize seeds, stored for the next growing season, were also consumed by the flames.

Faced with this catastrophic situation, several families find themselves homeless and without food stocks. The administrator of the territory of Lubao is appealing for help from the authorities and humanitarian organizations to support the affected families.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the locality of Kidima has been affected by a bush fire. In July 2022, another disaster had already ravaged 37 houses, a chapel and a public health center in the neighboring village of Bena Kasakaa.

These tragic events underline the vulnerability of local populations to bush fires. It is essential to put in place prevention and rapid response measures to avoid such situations and protect the communities of Kidima and surrounding areas.

Financial, material and logistical support is needed to help families rebuild their homes and recover from this disaster. In addition, it is crucial to raise awareness among the inhabitants of good practices for the prevention of bush fires and to put in place suitable infrastructures to deal with such incidents.

In these difficult times, solidarity and mutual aid are more necessary than ever. We hope that the authorities and humanitarian organizations will answer the call and support the community of Kidima in its reconstruction and its resilience in the face of this ordeal
