Management of human trafficking cases: strengthening the capacities of social actors
The fight against human trafficking is a major issue in many countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is with this in mind that the Coordination in charge of youth, the fight against GBV (gender-based violence) and human trafficking, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the financial support of USAID, launched a training workshop on the management of human trafficking cases.
This workshop, which takes place over three days, aims to strengthen the capacities of social actors involved in the care of victims of human trafficking, particularly in the provinces of Kinshasa, Kongo-Central and Kwilu. The objective is to enable participants to master the different aspects of human trafficking case management, such as the general context, principles, techniques and instruments. They will also be trained to transmit their knowledge to their respective colleagues, networks and sectors.
This initiative comes in the face of the scale of human trafficking in the world, with more than 50 million victims identified according to a joint study by the ILO (International Labor Organization) and the IOM. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the lack of expertise and the need for institutional capacity building are major challenges to be addressed.
IOM, which supports this training, is concerned about the situation of human trafficking in the DRC. Ely Thelot, IOM Technical Adviser, stresses the importance of building the capacity of social workers who are on the front line in caring for victims. He welcomes the collaboration with Mrs. Chantal Yelo Mulop, in charge of human trafficking, as well as with the head of division, Mr. Roger Ndangi.
For his part, Henri Pami Mayala, member of the youth coordination, fight against GBV and human trafficking, explains that this training is essential to enable social workers to identify human trafficking and to know how to act in the face of this scourge which is particularly rife in the province of Kongo-Central, and more specifically in Matadi.
Managing human trafficking cases is a complex challenge that requires specific skills. This type of training will enable social actors to better understand this issue and provide an effective response to victims. By strengthening institutional capacities and raising the awareness of the various actors, the fight against human trafficking can progress in the country.
Awareness-raising and training is therefore essential to combat this scourge and protect the rights of trafficked persons.. Collaboration between the various stakeholders, such as the Coordination in charge of youth, IOM and USAID, is an important step towards more effective management and a strengthened fight against human trafficking in the Democratic Republic of Congo
