“Félix Tshisekedi is committed to building fair and transparent justice in the DRC”

Building fair and transparent justice is one of the priorities of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi. In his speech at the launch of the training session for new magistrates class of 2023, he underlined the importance of the role of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) in the promotional and disciplinary remuneration of magistrates.

President Tshisekedi underlined the need to promote fair justice and to prevent magistrates implicated in cases of corruption, injustice or immoral behavior from accessing promotions. He emphasized the restoration of discipline, ethics and integrity within the Congolese judiciary.

The Head of State also called on the government to provide the necessary means to enable the judiciary to fully fulfill its role. He underlined the importance of guaranteeing decent living and working conditions for magistrates, as well as improving the salaries of magistrates, transfer costs, bonuses and medical and funeral care.

Felix Tshisekedi reminded the new magistrates that they are part of an elite body and urged them to internalize their role as servants of justice and defenders of the nation. He expressed concern about the current state of Congolese justice and said he counts on the judiciary to uplift the nation, not destroy it.

Since the beginning of his mandate, President Tshisekedi has repeatedly expressed his desire to reform the Congolese judicial system, in order to guarantee the independence of justice and to fight against corruption and impunity. He is determined to restore the image of Congolese justice and to make the judiciary function efficiently and fairly.

President Tshisekedi’s call to strengthen discipline, ethics and integrity within the Congolese judiciary is a strong signal of his desire to create a fair and transparent judicial system. By emphasizing the importance of the role of the CSM in the promotional and disciplinary retribution of magistrates, it sends a clear message of its determination to fight injustice and promote fair justice for all Congolese citizens
