The rehabilitation of roads in the province of South Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is one of the major challenges for the development of this region. It is in this context that Governor Théo NGWABIDJE KASI recently met with the Minister of State, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis GISARO Muvunyi, to discuss the issue of road infrastructure in the province.
One of the main topics of this meeting was the resumption of modernization work on the RN5, on its section from PKO Place de l’Indépendance to KAMANYOLA. Currently, only 15 km out of the 55 km planned for the works have been rehabilitated up to NYANTENDE. The Governor has obtained the assurance of Minister GISARO that this work will resume next week. The objective is to rehabilitate the road to FIZI, in order to open up this population and promote trade between the provinces of South Kivu, Maniema and Tanganyika.
In addition, the Governor also informed the Minister of the state of the other national roads of the province, such as BUKAVU-GOMA, BUKAVU-MWENGA, MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI, BUKAVU-BURHALE SHABUNDA, as well as the road connecting Idjwi North in Idjwi South. These roads require full rehabilitation, as they have so far only benefited from temporary works.
Minister GISARO MUVUNYI expressed his support and commitment to find appropriate solutions to these problems, falling within his ministry. He is committed to advocating with Congolese government partners to obtain the necessary resources.
In addition, the minister also announced the forthcoming rehabilitation of 90 km of the RN3, on the MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI section, by the company N.G.E. Preparations are already underway before work begins. Governor NGWABIDJE KASI expressed his satisfaction and paid tribute to the President of the Republic Félix Antoine TSHISEKEDI TSHILOMBO for his commitment to modernizing road infrastructure in the DRC.
This meeting between the Governor of South Kivu and the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works shows the willingness of the authorities of the province to advance road rehabilitation projects. The people of South Kivu look forward to this work, which will help improve connectivity and economic development in the region
