“Mobondo militiamen pushed back by the FARDC: security in Kenge remains fragile”

Mobondo militiamen continue to stir up trouble in the Kenge (Kwango) region. Recently, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) succeeded in repelling an attack by militiamen in the village of Nselemwedi. According to local sources, many attackers were neutralized during these clashes.

Lt. Jacques Kienge, spokesperson for the 11th military region, said Mobondo militiamen also operate in other villages in Kenge and Popokabaka territory. Although the death toll was not specified, the bodyguard of a militia leader named Papy Kifo surrendered to the FARDC with his weapon and a machete.

Major General Jonas Padiri, commander of operations in the region, appealed to the militiamen to lay down their arms and surrender. He also asks the population to remain vigilant and not to flee into the bush, so as not to be confused with the militiamen.

This attack comes a few days after the kidnapping of 13 motorcycle taxi drivers by Mobondo militiamen in the province of Mai-Ndombe. The security situation therefore remains worrying in this region.

It is crucial that the authorities and security forces continue to fight against armed groups and ensure the safety of citizens. Efforts to disarm militiamen and protect civilians must be strengthened to restore peace and stability in the Kenge region.
