Judicial revolution in the DRC: Training of new magistrates for a more efficient and equitable justice

Title: A new era for justice in the DRC: launch of training for new magistrates

Introduction :
Since June 6, the Democratic Republic of Congo has taken an important step in consolidating the rule of law. Indeed, the country now has 5,710 magistrates, thanks to the appointment of 2,500 new magistrates. This announcement was made by Dieudonné Kamuleta Badibanga, President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, during a training session for new magistrates. This step marks a real turning point in the judicial history of the country, with the aim of reaching the minimum ratio required by international standards. Let’s come back to this significant step forward for Congolese justice.

Significant progress in increasing the number of magistrates:
Before the appointment of 2,500 new magistrates, the DRC had only 3,210 active magistrates for a population estimated at more than 80 million inhabitants. This situation had a direct impact on the functioning of justice, with one magistrate for almost 27,000 inhabitants. However, with the arrival of these new magistrates, the country now has 5,710 magistrates, or one magistrate for approximately 14,500 inhabitants. This significant progress testifies to the commitment of President Félix Tshisekedi to strengthen the number of magistrates to guarantee a more efficient and accessible justice for all.

The promotion of female representation within the judiciary:
Another striking aspect of this new appointment is the promotion of female representation within the Congolese judiciary. Prior to this appointment, only 6% of magistrates were women. Thanks to the initiative of President Félix Tshisekedi, this percentage was increased to 34%, with the appointment of 858 women among the new magistrates. This development demonstrates the DRC’s commitment to promoting gender equality and providing opportunities for women in key positions in the justice system.

A priority for the rule of law:
The launch of the training of new magistrates by President Félix Tshisekedi demonstrates his commitment to the rule of law in the DRC. He considers that the improvement and proper functioning of justice are priorities for the Congolese nation. By increasing the number of magistrates, it takes an important step towards solving the structural problems with which Congolese justice was confronted. This appointment is perceived as a strong signal for the population and the magistrates, showing that the Head of State is really aware of the issues and ready to remedy them.

Conclusion :
The launch of the training of new magistrates in the DRC marks a new era for Congolese justice. With the increase in the number of magistrates and the promotion of female representation, the country is approaching the minimum ratio required by international standards. This progress testifies to President Félix Tshisekedi’s desire to strengthen the rule of law and to offer more effective and equitable justice to the Congolese population. It now remains for the magistrates to seize this opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of justice and the consolidation of the rule of law in the DRC
