A new start for justice in the DRC: Félix Tshisekedi launches the training of magistrates to consolidate the rule of law
On the sidelines of the launch of the initial training session for new magistrates promotion 2023 “Rule of Law”, the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi reiterated his commitment to instill a new start in Congolese justice. This initiative aims to fill the shortage of magistrates and to strengthen the judicial system in its role of guarantor of the rule of law in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In his speech on this occasion, Felix Tshisekedi stressed the importance of justice in uplifting a nation. He cited scripture to support his argument, saying that “righteousness lifts up a nation” (Proverbs 14:34). According to him, without functional and effective justice, the development of the country would be compromised.
The President also expressed his concern about the current functioning of the Congolese justice system, pointing to the problem of corruption and impunity. He called on magistrates to become aware of their crucial role in building the rule of law and to act with integrity and responsibility.
Since his accession to the supreme magistracy, Felix Tshisekedi has repeatedly expressed his desire to reform the judicial system in order to guarantee equality before the law and to fight against injustice. However, he recognizes that much more needs to be done to achieve this goal.
The training of new magistrates class of 2023 therefore represents an important step towards the consolidation of the rule of law in the DRC. It will make it possible to strengthen the judicial workforce and improve the quality and efficiency of the decisions rendered. It will also contribute to restoring citizens’ confidence in the judicial system and to combating corruption and impunity.
