Title: Agricultural training for the agricultural future of the DRC
Introduction :
Agriculture plays an essential role in the economic and social development of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). However, to reach its full potential, it is essential to train young farmers in modern and sustainable techniques. It is with this in mind that fifteen young people from the agricultural brigade, from different provinces of the DRC, recently benefited from training and strategic orientation in the agricultural field. This workshop, organized by the African Institute of Agricultural Leadership (AALI), took place on the adaptation ground of the agro-industrial park of Karhongo-Nyangezi, in South Kivu.
The development of agriculture in the DRC:
The DRC has immense agricultural potential thanks to its vast territory and the diversity of its natural resources. However, many challenges still hinder the development of this vital sector. These challenges include the lack of training and technical knowledge of farmers, outdated production methods, lack of access to markets and finance, as well as issues related to climate change. To overcome these obstacles, it is crucial to train and encourage a new generation of competent and environmentally aware farmers.
Training young farmers:
The workshop organized by AALI allowed young people to learn about modern agricultural techniques and technologies. They have been trained in various fields, such as agricultural education, modern crop production, animal husbandry and fish farming, product development and agricultural mechanization. This knowledge will enable them to disseminate these practices in their regions of intervention and thus contribute to a sustainable agricultural transformation.
The importance of political will and youth involvement:
Political will is essential to promote and support agricultural development in the DRC. Dr. Emmanuel Sanginga Nteranya underlines the importance of President Félix Tshisekedi’s commitment to agriculture. However, it is also crucial to mobilize young people and actively involve them in this process of agricultural transformation. As the future generation of farmers, they are the key players in securing the future of the agricultural sector in the DRC.
Conclusion :
The training of young farmers is an essential pillar for sustainable agricultural development in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The workshop organized by AALI offered the young people of the agricultural brigade a unique opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to implement modern and sustainable agricultural practices. By training a new generation of competent and aware farmers, the DRC can take the path of agricultural transformation that will increase production, generate jobs and reduce food insecurity
