The operation of physical and biometric control of the active soldiers of the 32nd military region in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was launched on Thursday July 13, 2023 by the Military Governor of the province of Ituri, Lieutenant-General Luboya N ‘kashama. This operation aims to obtain an exact number of active soldiers in this troubled region, while the east of the country is facing a lot of violence perpetrated by the ADF rebels and the M23 terrorists, supported by the Rwandan army.
According to the spokesperson for the army in Ituri, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, this physical and biometric control is part of the in-depth reform of the Congolese army and aims to strengthen its ability to deal with any internal and external threats. By controlling the size of the armed forces, the army also hopes to improve the living conditions of its members.
It is important to note that the army has clarified that this screening will only be carried out within military units and has asked all service members to return to their respective units to undergo this thorough screening. Moreover, the Military Governor was himself the first to go through this process of control, thus setting an example to follow.
This physical and biometric control operation will make it possible to obtain precise data on the military personnel present in the Ituri region, which is crucial in a situation of security crisis such as that currently experienced in the DRC. By knowing the exact number of active soldiers, the authorities will be able to take the necessary measures to reinforce security and protect the civilian population.
This initiative by the Military Governor of Ituri demonstrates the will of the Congolese authorities to face the security challenges that arise in the region. By controlling and reinforcing the numbers of the army, the DRC is giving itself the means to guarantee stability and peace on its territory.
This operation of physical and biometric control of the active soldiers of the 32nd military region in the DRC is therefore an important step in the reform of the army and in the fight against the violence which threatens the population. By controlling the numbers and building the capacity of the army, the DRC is one step closer to building a more secure and prosperous future.
