In a sad development of the news, an ambush attributed to ADF rebels took place in the village of Mapobu-Carrière, located in the North-East of the city of Oicha, territory of Beni in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to concordant sources, several victims are to be deplored, although the precise toll remains to be established. Among those affected by this attack is Mandela Muhithe, a prominent member of civil society and second vice-president of the Babumba-Kisiki group, in the Beni-Mbau sector.
Civil society in Beni territory pays tribute to Mandela Muhithe, describing his unfailing commitment to denouncing the atrocities committed by the ADF. His tragic death during this ambush once again testifies to the danger facing the population in this region. This new ambush comes on top of a series of recent incidents in the Beni region. Last Wednesday, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) announced the neutralization of three ADF rebels, in the territory of Beni in North Kivu. However, despite the efforts of the security forces, the threat continues to hang over the civilian population.
It is imperative to find lasting solutions to end these recurring attacks and protect the lives of citizens. The fight against armed groups and the establishment of a lasting peace must be an absolute priority to ensure stability in the Beni region and allow the inhabitants to live in safety.
It is also crucial to raise public awareness of this situation in order to mobilize additional resources and efforts to fight the ADF rebels and end their cycle of violence. Solidarity and cooperation between local, national and international actors are essential to restore peace in this battered region.
