Title: “Strengthening regional cooperation: The deployment of SADC troops in the DRC”
Introduction :
The Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, participated, by videoconference, in the extraordinary summit of the Troika of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on the methods of deployment of troops SADC in eastern DRC. This meeting aims to address the situation of insecurity in the region and find solutions to restore order and security.
An emergency call:
President Tshisekedi stressed the need to act quickly in the face of the urgent humanitarian situation in North Kivu. The displaced are deprived of their right to return home and risk not being able to participate in the upcoming elections. The return of order and security is therefore an absolute priority.
Implementation of agreements and programs:
Félix Tshisekedi also pleaded for the effective and urgent implementation of the joint roadmap of the Nairobi and Luanda Processes, as well as the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (PDDRC-S), with the support United Nations. He stressed the importance of international cooperation to guarantee stability in the region.
SADC contribution:
The future intervention of the SADC force in the DRC is part of its duty to assist members of the organization who face security problems. This intervention is crucial to restore peace and security in eastern DRC.
Security situation in Cabo Delgado:
During the summit, the Troika also discussed the security situation in the province of Cabo Delgado, in the Republic of Mozambique. The operations carried out by the SADC regional force have considerably reduced the offensive capabilities of terrorist groups. The Troika called on the international community to help finance SADC peacekeeping missions.
