The conflict between Dan Gertler and the “Congo is not for sale” coalition continues to make headlines. While the coalition issued a press release accusing Gertler of various illegal activities, the Ventora Group, representing Gertler, responded by calling the accusations misrepresentations.
Ventora regrets that the coalition has chosen to present subjective information as fact, questioning their commitment to honest dialogue. They point out that Gertler challenges past actions for which he is accused and that he remains engaged in a transparent dialogue with international and national civil society.
Regarding the defamation lawsuits, Ventora claims that CNPAV’s description of the status of the trial in the DRC is a gross manipulation of the facts. They recall that Gertler had stayed the defamation suits to foster an environment conducive to dialogue, despite the legal strength of those actions.
Ventora notes that CNPAV requested a halt to all proceedings, but their lawyers suggested proceeding without Gertler’s representation, which goes against their original request. They nevertheless maintain their offer to completely withdraw the case if CNPAV mutually agrees to this process.
The Gertler group also expresses its disappointment with CNPAV’s unilateral decision to make their statement public, without having been able to organize a structured meeting between the parties. They do, however, emphasize their willingness to engage positively with NGOs to ensure open and effective dialogue.
As the conflict between Dan Gertler and the “Congo is not for sale” coalition continues to escalate, it is essential to find constructive solutions to resolve this dispute and promote transparent and open dialogue. It is important to take into account all the parties involved and to seek compromises that will preserve the public interest and promote the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
