A Congolese national deputy suspected of espionage and treason

However, the deputy’s defense claims that Édouard Mwangachuchu only holds Congolese passports and that no foreign passports were found during searches of his residences. A verification by the High Military Court confirmed that during a test carried out in Rwanda on May 27, 2021, the deputy had indeed presented himself as Congolese.
Faced with this controversy, the case was sent back for a new hearing scheduled for Friday, July 14. The High Court will have to continue examining the case in order to unravel the truth concerning the nationality of Edouard Mwangachuchu and his possible involvement in the activities of the M23 rebels.
This case raises questions about the security and integrity of political representatives, as well as about cooperation between the countries of the region to fight against insurrectionary movements and espionage. It highlights the complex geopolitical issues facing the Democratic Republic of Congo.
