Located in the province of Mai-Ndombe, the city of Kwamouth is currently experiencing an improvement in its security situation. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Peter Kazadi, during a weekly briefing on July 10, 2023 in Kinshasa, peace is gradually returning to the region and the attackers are repelled. Good news which makes it possible to envisage the resumption of activities, in particular the enrollment of voters by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).
However, it should be noted that the voter registration process in the Kwamouth region had been postponed for security reasons, following clashes between the Teke and the Yaka. The CENI is committed to resuming this operation once the security situation has been restored. The government has also provided for the retraining of the defense and security forces in order to support the CENI in this delicate task.
Besides Kwamouth, other areas still present security challenges in the DRC. The territories of Rutshuru and Masisi are particularly affected by the activism of the terrorist group M23, supported by Rwanda. The government is implementing measures to recover these territories and deal with the presence of foreign forces. Securing the electoral process is a priority for the Congolese government, which is actively working to restore peace and stability in all regions of the country.
The resumption of voter registration in the Kwamouth region and the securing of the electoral process as a whole are crucial steps for democracy in the DRC. It is essential to guarantee secure conditions and ensure the participation of all citizens in the democratic process. The Congolese government, in collaboration with the CENI, is making every effort to achieve these objectives.
Overall, the security situation in Kwamouth is gradually improving, offering new prospects for the holding of elections and voter registration. The Congolese government remains determined to continue its efforts to restore peace and stability in all regions of the country, in order to guarantee free and transparent elections for the well-being of the Congolese nation.
