“Kwamouth finally secure: A step towards peaceful elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo”

The recent announcement by the VPM, Minister of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Peter Kazadi, during the weekly briefing in Kinshasa, indicates that the security situation in Kwamouth, in the province of Mai-Ndombe, is currently under control. The attackers are pushed back and peace seems to be gradually returning to the region. This news is a beacon of hope for the population who have been living in fear and insecurity for some time.

The government, aware of the importance of stability for the electoral process, has taken steps to strengthen security in the region. Defense and security forces are being reconditioned to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in voter registration in Kwamouth and parts of the city of Kinshasa, also affected by this crisis. The VPM stressed that the CENI is ready to go there and that the security forces will be present to ensure the safety of the CENI agents and the inhabitants during this operation.

However, it is important to note that the situation is not yet resolved in some regions. There are still security issues in Rutshuru and Masisi, where the M23 terrorist group, with support from Rwanda, continues to cause trouble. The government is committed to recovering these territories and putting an end to the presence of foreign forces from Rwanda. It is actively working to deploy the necessary means to restore security in these regions and guarantee the holding of a peaceful and democratic electoral process.

Securing the electoral process is an absolute priority for the Congolese government. The resumption of identification and voter registration operations in Kwamouth is an important step in this direction. It is essential to guarantee the participation of all Congolese citizens in the democratic process and to ensure that their voice is heard in the next elections.

In conclusion, the security situation in Kwamouth seems to be gradually improving thanks to the measures taken by the Congolese government. The resumption of voter registration operations is an encouraging sign for the local population. However, further efforts are needed to resolve security issues in other areas affected by the unrest. The government remains committed to ensuring the stability necessary for a peaceful and democratic electoral process
