“Kidnappings in Kinshasa: psychosis grows as the authorities struggle to act”

Title: Abductions in Kinshasa: a growing climate of insecurity worries the population

Introduction :

For several weeks, the multiplication of cases of kidnappings in Kinshasa has caused great concern among the inhabitants of the Congolese capital. Testimonies multiply and psychosis sets in, leaving the population to live in fear. Yellow taxis, commonly referred to as “ketches”, are used as a means of transport to carry out these kidnappings. Despite the arrest of a group of criminals, the situation continues to worsen, leaving the population waiting for effective measures from the competent authorities.

The weight of insecurity on the population:

Marcel Muamba, store employee and resident of the town of Masina, testifies to the kidnapping of one of his cousins. The latter was kidnapped for three days by armed men aboard a yellow taxi, before being released against a ransom of 500 dollars by Mobile money. In the district of Marcel, three cases of kidnappings have been identified, one of which unfortunately had a tragic outcome. This situation fuels anguish and fear among the inhabitants, who wonder who will be the next victim.

Ineffective security measures:

Although the police managed to get their hands on a group of criminals and put them on trial, the population considers their action to be ineffective. Indeed, the number of kidnappings continues to increase, which reinforces the feeling of abandonment on the part of the authorities. Kinshasa people now live in a climate of general mistrust, where every individual is suspected, whether taxi driver or simple customer. This situation also has an economic impact, as taxi drivers struggle to find customers, as their livelihood is threatened.

Calls for drastic measures:

Faced with this alarming situation, the population calls on the competent authorities, in particular the Ministers of the Interior, to take drastic measures to put an end to this wave of kidnappings. Reinforced security measures, tracking down criminal networks and better cooperation between the police are all ways to combat this scourge. The population hopes to find a sense of security and serenity in their daily lives.

Conclusion :

The kidnappings in Kinshasa have created a growing climate of insecurity, plunging the population into concern and fear. Despite the arrests, the situation continues to worsen, leaving the people of Kinshasa on their own. Faced with this worrying situation, the authorities must take effective measures to stem this criminal phenomenon and allow the inhabitants to regain the peace of mind that is due to them
