Abductions in Kinshasa: the population in turmoil
The city of Kinshasa is currently in the grip of a wave of kidnappings which has sown psychosis among the population. This situation of growing insecurity has been confirmed by numerous testimonies collected by the editorial staff of CONGOPROFOND.NET.
Marcel Muamba, a resident of the commune of Masina, recounts the kidnapping of one of his cousins by armed men aboard a taxi. He was held hostage for three days before being released against a ransom of 500 dollars paid in Mobile Money. Unfortunately, in his neighborhood too, three cases of kidnappings have been recorded, one of which resulted in the death of the victim. This alarming situation arouses fear and concern among the population who wonders who will be next on the list.
Kidnappings are carried out by individuals using yellow taxis, commonly referred to as “Ketches”. The population, which is used to using these taxis to get around, expresses its concern and asks the authorities to take firm measures to put an end to this phenomenon.
It is important to point out that the police recently arrested and sentenced a group of thirty bandits involved in these kidnappings. However, the population is losing confidence in the effectiveness of the security forces, because despite these arrests, the cases of kidnappings continue to increase.
Faced with this situation, mistrust has set in in the capital. Every taxi driver and every passenger is now viewed as a suspect, putting taxi drivers at risk as they struggle to find customers. Their livelihood is seriously threatened.
It is imperative that the competent authorities, in particular the Ministers of the Interior at both national and provincial level, redouble their efforts to curb this worrying phenomenon. The population expects concrete measures to counter this wave of kidnappings and restore security in Kinshasa.
In conclusion, the multiplication of kidnappings in Kinshasa plunges the population into fear and concern. Yellow taxis, once symbols of mobility and freedom, are now a source of insecurity. The authorities must act quickly and effectively to put an end to these criminal acts and restore the confidence of the inhabitants of the Congolese capital.
