Cooperation between Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Cyril Ramaphosa: a strategic partnership for the DRC
Security and the economy, two key sectors, were at the center of discussions during the meeting between President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa. The presidents expressed their desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several areas in order to promote the development and stability of the DRC.
In a joint statement, cooperation in the sectors of security, economy, finance, politics and infrastructure was highlighted. The two leaders agreed on the need to deepen exchanges and partnerships in these areas to ensure prosperity and peace in the region.
During a joint press conference, President Félix Tshisekedi also addressed the issue of direct negotiations with Rwanda and the rebel group M23. He highlighted Rwanda’s support for the M23 and its role in perpetuating the conflict in the DRC to fuel its economy. President Tshisekedi has firmly asserted that he cannot negotiate with actors acting by proxy and seeking to preserve their economic interests.
Furthermore, President Tshisekedi was optimistic about the ability of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) sub-regional force to achieve concrete results on the ground. The presence of this force, engaged in the fight against armed groups and regional security, will contribute to strengthening the stability of the DRC.
The South African President’s visit to the DRC therefore marks an important step in strengthening ties between the two countries. This strategic cooperation will allow the DRC to benefit from South Africa’s expertise and economic support, while strengthening regional security and cooperation in other key areas such as infrastructure and finance.
In conclusion, the meeting between Presidents Tshisekedi and Ramaphosa opens new perspectives for the DRC. This enhanced cooperation with South Africa will enable the DRC to stimulate its economic development, improve internal security and strengthen its position on the international scene. The DRC can thus envisage a more prosperous and stable future thanks to this fruitful collaboration.
