Kidnappings in Kinshasa: a worrying situation for Kinshasa people
For some time, Kinshasa has been the scene of a multiplication of kidnappings, which has created a real psychosis among the inhabitants. The editorial staff of CONGOPROFOND.NET was able to observe this state of concern during its interviews with several people in the city.
Marcel Muamba, store employee and resident of Masina, testifies: “One of my cousins was kidnapped by armed men in a taxi and held hostage for three days. They finally released him after receiving a ransom $500 via Mobile Money from our family.” He also adds that in his neighborhood, three cases of kidnappings have been recorded, one of which unfortunately resulted in the death of the victim. Fear now reigns in the streets, and everyone wonders who will be next on the list.
These kidnappings are carried out through yellow taxis, commonly known as “Ketches”. This situation has caused widespread mistrust, both on the side of taxi drivers and passengers. Everyone becomes suspicious, which also makes life difficult for taxi drivers who struggle to find customers.
Despite the recent arrests of about thirty people involved in these kidnappings, the population considers the work of the police ineffective, because the cases continue to multiply. The competent authorities, in particular the Ministers of the Interior, are therefore urged to take drastic measures to put an end to this phenomenon in a lasting way.
In conclusion, the situation of kidnappings in Kinshasa has created a real psychosis among the inhabitants. The tension is palpable, and everyone lives in fear of being the next victim. It is imperative that the authorities take urgent and effective measures to put an end to this wave of kidnappings which affects the safety and well-being of Kinshasa people on a daily basis.
