Title: In search of the best candidates: Gungu’s “Electoral Showcase” in the DRC

Introduction :
A few months before the elections scheduled for next December in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the territory of Gungu, located in the south-west of the country, is innovating by setting up the “Electoral Showcase”. This civil society initiative aims to identify the most competent and capable candidates to represent and defend the interests of Gungu. This innovative approach aims to foster the development of this region which has remained underdeveloped for many years.

The concept of the “Electoral Showcase”:
The “Electoral Showcase” of Gungu is an innovation born from the desire to see the territory develop. This approach is comparable to a cupboard with glass, making it easy to distinguish between clean and dirty glasses and plates. In the electoral context, the “windows” represent the criteria put in place to select the best candidates.
In all, fifteen criteria have been established to evaluate the candidates, such as competence, initiatives, level of studies and a social project reflecting the development of the territory of Gungu. These criteria are the result of a citizen consultation conducted by civil society since last May.

Public awareness:
In addition to setting up the “Electoral Showcase”, the civil society of Gungu is engaged in an awareness campaign among the population. The objective is to inform citizens about the importance of choosing competent and committed candidates for the development of their territory. This sensitization aims to encourage the inhabitants of Gungu to take an active part in the electoral process and to make informed choices.

Conclusion :
The establishment of the “Electoral Showcase” in the territory of Gungu in the DRC marks a new approach in the selection of candidates for elections. This civil society initiative aims to promote the development of the region by identifying the best representatives capable of defending the interests of Gungu. By raising public awareness, civil society hopes to encourage the involvement of citizens in the electoral process and thus contribute to the advancement of their territory
