“DRC National Forum: Political parties and civil society discuss the 2023 electoral process”

The article above covers the key points discussed during the national forum of stakeholders in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During this forum, which lasted three days, several topics were discussed, with the participation of representatives of political parties and civil society.

The first panel of the day focused on the engagement of political parties in the 2023 electoral process. Representatives of the political majority as well as of the opposition expressed their expectations and demands regarding the electoral process. Some political parties have affirmed their willingness to participate in the elections with their own candidates, while others have raised concerns about the composition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and called for reforms.

The second panel, meanwhile, addressed the issue of electoral disputes. The speakers discussed the different aspects of electoral disputes, such as the eligibility of candidates and the results published by the CENI. They stressed the importance of electoral disputes in legitimizing the electoral process and encouraged candidates to understand the rules of the game and to appeal to courts and tribunals in the event of a dispute.

The communication of the President of the CENI, Denis Kadima, was also a key moment of the forum. He responded to the concerns raised by the participants and clarified certain points, in particular with regard to the electoral register. Denis Kadima denied claims that the current file is a combination of 2018 data, and called on political parties to organize their own election observation rather than relying solely on observation by the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO). ).

In conclusion, the national forum of stakeholders in the electoral process in the DRC allowed constructive exchanges between the various political and civil society actors. The discussions highlighted the expectations, concerns and demands of stakeholders to ensure fair and transparent elections in 2023.
