Barbara Kanam: the new Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund of the DRC
In a recent Order signed by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, Barbara Kanam was appointed Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund (FPC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This renowned Congolese singer has made a name for herself in the music industry thanks to her talent and her patriotic commitment.
Born in Bukavu on September 27, 1979, Barbara Kanam has spent a large part of her life abroad, notably in South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire and France. She studied economics in South Africa and obtained her diploma in international trade in Abidjan.
It was in 1999 that she discovered her passion for music by joining the Dévotion orchestra. She then honed her voice and musical skills in Johannesburg, South Africa. After a two-year break following the birth of her child, she returns to the music scene with her second album “Teti”, which allows her to be recognized as one of the most talented female voices in the DRC. .
Throughout her career, Barbara Kanam has collaborated with many renowned artists such as Papa Wemba, Fally Ipupa and Jacob Desvarieux. She also won the Kora for Best Female Hope in 2005.
In addition to her artistic career, Barbara Kanam has also shown her patriotic commitment by supporting the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) during the period of conflict with Rwanda. She was appointed National Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the promotion of climate actions in the DRC.
