Barbara Kanam appointed Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund in the DRC
As part of the recent appointments made by the Head of State, an announcement particularly caught the attention: Barbara Kanam, artist-songwriter, has been appointed Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund (FPC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This nomination testifies to the recognition of his talent and his contribution to the cultural field of the country.
The FPC, created in 1987 under the name “Fonds Mobutu Sese Seko”, is an organization that works to finance cultural and artistic activities in the DRC. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, it enjoys a certain degree of management autonomy. Barbara Kanam will therefore be responsible for implementing the intervention methods of the FPC, as determined by the Ministerial Order of 2012.
This appointment only reinforces the exceptional career of Barbara Kanam. Graduated in Economics and International Trade, she also has a diploma in Theology and a diploma in Vocal Technique. In 2019, she was honored with an Honoris Causa doctorate from the University of Miami, and in 2022, she was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the Promotion of Climate Actions in the DRC by the United Nations Development Program ( UNDP).
Barbara Kanam will be surrounded by a team made up of Ngoy Dioko Emany, appointed Chairman of the FPC Board of Directors, and Didier Masela, appointed Managing Director. Together, they will aim to support and promote national cultural and artistic projects in the DRC.
This appointment underlines the essential role of culture in the development and promotion of the DRC. Barbara Kanam embodies an inspiring figure for the country’s artists, and her presence at the head of the FPC testifies to the government’s desire to promote and support Congolese talent. We can only look forward to the projects and initiatives she will put in place to boost the cultural sector of the DRC
