The voting intentions in Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Haut Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have just been revealed by the firm Target. This study aims to understand the participation of the population in the next elections, the motivations behind the choice of provincial deputy candidates, the ideal candidate, as well as the speeches that meet the expectations of the population.
The results show that only 36% of respondents know precisely the names of the candidates for whom they will vote in the next election. Jean de Dieu Mulenda of the PPRD leads with 7% of the voting intentions, followed by Vital Nsunzu of the ACO with 5%. However, 43% of respondents do not yet know who to vote for and 21% say they have no candidate. It is interesting to note that among those who do not have a candidate, 25% are women aged 35 and over.
In Lubumbashi, there is a tie between the majority and opposition candidates, each obtaining 11% of the voting intentions. Jean de Dieu Mulenda is cited more by women, especially those aged 25 to 34, while Vital Nsunzu is more supported by men, especially young people aged 18 to 24 and 25 to 34. Jacques Kyabula occupies third place and is the most popular among 25 to 34 year olds. Christian Mwando, meanwhile, is cited only by men aged 50 and over.
These results bear witness to the importance of the upcoming elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The country is preparing to organize its 4th electoral cycle since the adoption of the new constitution in 2023. This study carried out by Target was conducted from May 11 to 25 and interviewed a sample of 1,200 people in the provincial capitals. of Greater Katanga.
It is therefore essential for candidates to campaign effectively to engage voters and convince them to vote for them. The figures show that many voters are still undecided, opening up opportunities for candidates to win additional support by delivering speeches and platforms that address people’s concerns. Women and young people seem to be key groups to target, as they represent a significant proportion of the undecided.
In conclusion, the results of voting intentions in Lubumbashi underline the importance of effective electoral campaign strategies to win the support of the population
