Congolese News: The surprising words of President Félix Tshisekedi
President Félix Tshisekedi recently answered questions from his compatriots during a press conference. One of his answers was particularly surprising, concerning his greatest regret for his five-year term. He said: “I may come as a surprise to you. The end of the FCC-Cash coalition is my biggest regret…I was really invested in it…I thought to myself that these friends had had the management that “they had, you can say what you want about it. For me, it’s in the past.”
This statement refers to the end of the coalition between the Common Front for the Congo (FCC) and the Cap for Change (Cash) in December 2020. A decision taken by Félix Tshisekedi which led to the creation of the Sacred Union of the nation and the swing of the majority in Parliament.
President Tshisekedi thus expresses his disappointment at the reaction of his former political partners, who, according to him, remained “in their bubble” and believed that power belonged to them. He affirms, on the other hand, to want to experiment “a new thing” with the Sacred Union and to show that it is possible to change things peacefully and fraternally so that Congo evolves.
Moreover, evoking his greatest satisfaction, Felix Tshisekedi highlights the establishment of free primary education. A decision that he implemented from the start of his mandate and which meets a constitutional obligation.
These statements by President Tshisekedi show his desire to stand out from the former coalition and to highlight the achievements and projects of the Sacred Union. This political platform aims to grant him a second term and a “comfortable” majority in Parliament during the next elections scheduled for December.
In any case, these positions of Félix Tshisekedi will not fail to provoke reactions and fuel political debates in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The politico-economic future of the country remains uncertain, but these declarations testify to the Congolese President’s desire for change and development
