The security situation in the territory of Beni: a provincial deputy sounds the alarm.

The security situation in the territory of Beni is of great concern to the provincial deputy Celse Muhindo Magezi. In a recent exchange with General Dic Holumu, who oversees the joint UPDF-FARDC operation, he highlights the challenges facing our army. According to him, the army suffers from a lack of logistics and a small workforce, which makes it difficult to eliminate the enemy. He also stresses the importance of taking into account the alerts of the population, in order to avoid incidents such as the recent Kasindi massacre.

Deputy Magezi believes that the security situation has a direct impact on the socio-economic life of the Grand-Nord region. Dilapidated roads and growing insecurity make travel difficult and disrupt economic activities. He thus pleads for an inclusive dialogue between the security forces, NGOs and the population, in order to find lasting solutions to put an end to insecurity. He insists on the importance of a frank collaboration between all the stakeholders.

In the exchange with General Holumu, the deputy also asks to widen the range of action of the joint UPDF-FARDC operation, by deploying the soldiers in areas that have been unsecured until now. He points out that the enemy seems to move with impunity, committing acts of violence in different regions. Coordinated and extensive action is therefore necessary to ensure security in the Far North.

MP Magezi expresses his confidence in General Holumu’s assurances of efforts to bring peace to the region. He also stresses the importance of supporting Congolese army soldiers, providing them with adequate logistics and taking care of their basic needs such as food and medical care.

Overall, it is clear that the issue of security remains a significant challenge in Beni territory. Joint efforts between the Congolese army and the UPDF are necessary, but it is just as crucial to strengthen logistics, widen the field of action and take into account the alerts of the population. An inclusive and constructive dialogue between all the parties concerned is also essential to find lasting solutions to this situation which negatively impacts the lives of the inhabitants and the socio-economic development of the Grand-Nord region.
