Rwandan aggression against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to hamper Africa’s development efforts. This was declared by the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Defense during the closing of the 12th session of the DRC-Republic of South Africa (RSA) Defense and Security Commission. According to him, this disastrous situation undermines the aspirations of African peoples to progress and hinders the long-awaited development of the DRC.
The violence that has been raging in the DRC for several years, orchestrated by Rwanda, is a reality known to the international community. It not only disturbs the tranquility of the Congolese people, but it also hinders many development projects initiated by the government. The consequences of this situation are disastrous, in particular with the upsurge in violence against women, which sows chaos and desolation.
However, despite these geopolitical uncertainties, military cooperation between the DRC and the RSA remains solid. The Heads of State of these two countries, Felix Tshisekedi and Cyril Ramaphosa, have shown their determination to work together to find solutions to security and defense issues in the region. Their leadership and commitment to the peace, security and development of their countries testify to their common concern for Africa as a whole.
RSA Minister of Defense and Veterans, Ruth Thandi Modise, also underlined the importance of the historical and friendly relations linking the RSA to the DRC. This dinner bringing together South African and Congolese officials was an opportunity to strengthen these ties and reaffirm the commitment of the two countries to the stability and development of the region.
It is undeniable that the Rwandan aggression continues to have a detrimental impact on the DRC and Africa as a whole. It is therefore imperative that the international community intensify its efforts to put an end to this situation and guarantee the region’s sustainable security and development. Cooperation among African countries and international solidarity are key to addressing these challenges and building a better future for all.
