“The continuing instability in eastern DRC: Tshisekedi blames Rwanda and calls for negotiations”

The continuing instability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo was once again the topic of discussion during the joint press conference between Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and his South African counterpart. Accusing Rwanda of being behind this situation, Tshisekedi said that the Rwandan president has always lied about the DRC aggression.

According to Tshisekedi, Rwanda presents the situation as an internal problem in Congo, when the reality is that his country is attacking the DRC. Despite the overwhelming evidence, the Rwandan president continues to deny his responsibility. The Congolese Head of State also expressed his difficulty in engaging in discussions with Rwanda in this situation.

In addition, the East African regional force has been criticized by Tshisekedi for its behavior vis-à-vis the peace agreements. He underlined the connivance between the Ugandan and Kenyan contingents with the elements of the M23, even allowing the latter to levy taxes in certain localities. New arrangements have been agreed with the countries concerned for a possible decision by September.

The article also highlights Tshisekedi’s call to negotiate with Rwanda on this issue, while stressing that the current situation does not allow for such talks.

In conclusion, the instability in eastern DRC and the alleged involvement of Rwanda continue to be a major source of concern. President Tshisekedi calls for negotiations while denouncing the actions of Rwanda and criticizing the behavior of the East African force. The search for a peaceful solution to this situation remains a major challenge for political actors in the region
