As part of a two-day official visit, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Kinshasa to discuss economic cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Africa. Welcomed by the Congolese Prime Minister, Jean Michel Sama Lukonde, President Ramaphosa will meet his counterpart Félix Tshisekedi during a tête-à-tête at the Palais de la Nation.

This visit is a continuation of the exchanges between the two Heads of State in December 2020, where they discussed regional and continental development issues. This week’s meeting will serve to take stock of the work of the DRC-South Africa Joint Grand Commission and to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The main issue of this visit is economic cooperation. The two Presidents will discuss ways to advance the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which aims to accelerate sustainable development in Africa. Key areas of cooperation, such as trade, investment, infrastructure and natural resources, will be discussed during the working lunch between the two Heads of State.

The DRC, with its vast natural resources, offers attractive investment opportunities for South Africa. Economic cooperation between the two countries can contribute to the economic growth and development of both nations. It should be noted that South Africa is an important trading partner for the DRC, and this visit aims to further strengthen these economic ties.

In conclusion, the official visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the DRC marks an important step in the strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries. The discussions aim to promote investment, trade and sustainable development. This visit demonstrates the importance given to regional and continental cooperation in the realization of the African Union’s Agenda 2063
