“Persistent insecurity in Beni: the alarming truth revealed by a provincial deputy”

Persistent insecurity in the territory of Beni: the alarming testimony of a provincial deputy

In the territory of Beni, the security situation continues to deteriorate, leaving the population in a state of fear and despair. This is the alarming observation made by the provincial deputy Celse Muhindo Magezi, who is worried about the lack of resources and logistics of the Congolese army (FARDC) to fight the enemy. Despite the collaboration with the Ugandan army (UPDF) within the framework of a joint operation, the MP deplores the passivity and negligence of certain military officials in the face of alerts from the population.

MP Muhindo recently spoke with General Dic Holumu, who oversees the joint UPDF-FARDC operation, and noted a worrying situation. According to him, the Congolese army faces major problems, such as reduced numbers and a severe lack of logistics. This greatly hampers efforts to address insecurity in the Beni region. On the other hand, the UPDF has more advanced logistics, which reinforces the feeling of inequality between the two forces.

The MP also underlines the socio-economic consequences of this persistent insecurity. Roads are in poor condition, hampering trade and isolating the population. The inhabitants of rural areas find themselves deprived of their fields and their villages, forced to take refuge in the big cities where they hope to find a little more security.

Faced with this worrying situation, MP Magezi calls for a dialogue to be held between the security forces, NGOs and the population in order to find concrete solutions. He insists on the need to strengthen the civil-military link and to listen carefully to the alerts of the population in order to better respond to security needs.

The MP also pleaded with General Holumu to extend the radius of action of the joint UPDF-FARDC operation, in order to cover a larger territory and prevent armed groups from moving freely. He believes that the presence of the enemy in different areas highlights the importance of coordinated and effective action.

Despite these challenges, the MP remains optimistic and affirms that General Holumu has given assurances that additional efforts will be made to restore peace in the Beni region.

It is essential to take seriously the concerns expressed by MP Magezi and to find quick and lasting solutions to end the insecurity in the territory of Beni. It is time to strengthen the Congolese army, provide the necessary logistics and foster close collaboration between all parties involved. Only a strong collective commitment can guarantee the safety and well-being of the population in this tormented region.
