Title: Kin Créa: A cultural project to revitalize the outlying districts of Kinshasa
Introduction :
The city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is full of artistic and cultural talent. However, many outlying areas of the city suffer from a lack of cultural infrastructure to allow local artists to express themselves and residents to enjoy quality performances. It is in this context that the Kin Créa project was launched by the Tam-tam theater company. Its objective is to create cultural centers and train young artists in the arts of speech, in order to energize the cultural scene in these neighborhoods.
A training and structuring project:
The Kin Créa project aims to professionalize young artists and structure the spoken word arts sector in Kinshasa. Initially, 70 young people from nine peripheral municipalities will be trained in the arts of storytelling and speech. Artists, comedians, slammers, journalists and administrators will be present to create an ecosystem to organize quality shows. The objective is to give the inhabitants of peripheral districts access to culture and to develop a balanced cultural offer throughout the city.
Cultural centers for all:
The Kin Créa project also provides for the creation of two cultural centers in the districts of Tshangu and Lukunga. These centers will be places for meetings, shows and artistic exchanges, thus making it possible to revitalize cultural life in these districts. In addition, the project aims to set up 15 shows for the beneficiary municipalities, in order to sustain cultural activities in these environments.
European funding:
The Kin Créa project receives funding from the European Union. The estimated budget is $350,000, part of which has already been disbursed. For the European Union, culture is a crucial element in the partnership with the DRC, because it brings people together despite their differences and promotes dialogue between communities. The financial support of the European Union testifies to the importance given to culture as a vector of exchange and construction of a common future.
Conclusion :
The Kin Créa project represents a real opportunity for the outlying districts of Kinshasa to develop their cultural scene and give young artists the means to express themselves professionally. Through the creation of cultural centers and the training of local artists, the project aims to balance the cultural offer throughout the city and to offer all inhabitants access to quality cultural activities.. The financial support of the European Union testifies to the importance attached to this project, which will contribute to strengthening the links between the communities and to promoting dialogue and cultural exchange in Kinshasa.
