The military front against the aggression of Rwanda and its M23 auxiliaries will be the last option, after diplomacy, said the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, during a broadcast on national television.
During this special broadcast, where President Tshisekedi answered thousands of questions from Congolese on various topical issues, he reaffirmed his faith in diplomacy to resolve tensions in eastern DRC. However, he also stressed that his army is ready to take action if Rwanda and the M23 armed group do not cooperate.
“I continue to believe in diplomacy, in the meantime I have managed to prepare my army. And if we see that Rwanda and its M23 cohort do not comply, we will take action. But that remains the last option”, declared the Congolese Head of State.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic pressure on the Kagame regime, while encouraging the DRC government to continue its efforts to preserve peace and security on Congolese territory.
This statement reflects President Tshisekedi’s desire to resolve the conflicts in the east of the country by peaceful means, emphasizing diplomacy. However, he is also determined to protect the sovereignty of the DRC and to take action if necessary.
It is important to note that the situation in eastern DRC remains complex, with the presence of numerous armed groups and persistent tensions with Rwanda. Diplomacy therefore remains essential to promote a peaceful resolution of these conflicts.
In conclusion, President Tshisekedi puts forward diplomacy as the first option to resolve tensions in eastern DRC, but does not rule out the possibility of military action as a last resort. His determination to both keep the peace and defend his country’s sovereignty illustrates the challenges he faces in this troubled region
