Choose your political representatives: the call of CENCO
In a press conference held on July 6, 2023, the President of the Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO), Bishop Marcel Utembi Tapa, appealed to the Congolese population to show objectivity in the choice of their next political representatives.
The electoral context in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is important, as the country prepares to elect new leaders at all levels next December. Faced with this crucial occasion, Archbishop Marcel Utembi Tapa stressed the importance for citizens to favor objective criteria such as competence and moral probity when voting.
The Prelate recalled that the elections are an opportunity given to the Congolese people to renew their confidence in the leaders who have served the country well and to punish those who have mismanaged public affairs in their own interest. He also called on voters to show responsibility by saying no to opportunists who switch sides to serve their personal interests, to candidates who favor their family members as surrogates, to candidates who run at all levels and thus limit chances of other candidates, tribalists and nepotists, as well as the buying of consciences.
This call from CENCO highlights the importance of making informed choices in elections, taking into account the qualifications and moral values of the candidates. It reminds Congolese voters of their responsibility as primary sovereigns and encourages active citizen participation to ensure competent and honest political representatives.
In conclusion, CENCO calls on the Congolese people to open their eyes and show objectivity in choosing their future leaders in the upcoming elections. This awareness of the importance of making informed and responsible choices will help promote a strong democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo
