In a statement, the EU expressed support for the report’s recommendations, highlighting the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in the country.

A disturbing report:

The EU expressed deep concern over the report’s troubling findings. It strongly condemns the levels of violence and atrocities perpetrated with complete impunity against civilians in the DRC, in particular by groups such as M23, FDLR/FOCA, ADF, the CODECO-URDPC group and Zaire/MAPI. Reports of massive sexual violence, including the sexual exploitation of displaced women and girls, as well as the recruitment of children, have also deeply shocked the EU.

Call for an end to impunity:

In the face of these atrocities, the EU urges all armed groups to put an end to alleged unlawful killings, rapes and other war crimes. It demands that all those responsible for violations of human rights and international humanitarian law be brought to justice and fully answer for their actions. The EU also welcomes the decision of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to examine the acts committed in North Kivu, in response to the request of the Congolese authorities.

Strengthening international action:

The EU, in its communiqué, stresses the importance of reinforced international action to deal with the situation in the DRC. It welcomes the extension of the mandate of the UN Group of Experts by the UN Security Council, and expresses its commitment to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in the country.

Conclusion :

The report of the UN group of experts on the DRC has deeply troubled the European Union, which supports the report’s recommendations. The security and humanitarian situation in the DRC is of growing concern, and the EU calls for an end to impunity for serious crimes perpetrated against civilians
