“The reopening of the Bunagana border in North Kivu: a decisive step towards stability in eastern DRC”

The resumption of activities in Bunagana, in the province of North Kivu, was announced by the military governor, Lieutenant General Constant Ndima. This return to normal comes more than a year after the capture of the city by the M23 terrorists.

In a letter addressed to the provincial administration, Lieutenant General Ndima asks all the entities concerned, both civilian and military, to take the necessary measures to restore the functioning of the border. He also recommends that this reopening be done under the escort of the force of the East African Community (EAC).

In his letter, the military governor refers to a letter from the Commander of the Regional Force of the Community of East African States, in which are mentioned the prerequisites to be accomplished before the resumption of activities in Bunagana. He stresses the importance of collaboration between the various departments in order to carry out a complete inventory and transmit the information to their respective hierarchy.

This announcement of the resumption of activities in Bunagana is an important step towards the stabilization of the North Kivu region, which has often been shaken by armed conflicts. This bears witness to the efforts made by the authorities to restore security and the normal functioning of the infrastructure in this part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

It should be noted that the security situation in the east of the country remains fragile, with the presence of armed groups and challenges related to the organization of elections. However, the reopening of the border at Bunagana is a positive signal that testifies to the progress made in the fight against insecurity.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face many challenges, but initiatives such as the resumption of activities in Bunagana are helping to build confidence and hope for a better future for the people of this region
