The Confédération Syndicale du Congo (CSC) recently won the union elections for the Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale (CNSS) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These elections, which took place in Kinshasa on June 7, made it possible to designate the trade union organizations which will represent the workers of the CNSS before the administration.
With 198 votes and 3 seats, the CSC emerged as the big winner of this eighth edition of the union elections. It is followed by the National Union of Workers of Congo (UNTC) with 139 votes and 2 seats, then by the Nouvelle Dynamique Syndicale (NDS) with 92 votes and 1 seat.
According to Onautshu Osokonda, president of the CSC, the main objective of their victory is to defend the interests of the workers of the CNSS before the governing bodies. He says, “We will raise the voice of workers and advocate for their benefits and interests.”
In total, twenty trade union organizations were in the running for these CNSS elections. The elected unions will hold their mandate until 2026. This victory of the CSC testifies to the confidence placed by the workers in this union organization to represent their interests in the social security sector in the DRC.
The CNSS, created in 1961, is a public institution responsible for organizing social security in the DRC. Its role is essential in the social protection of workers and the management of benefits linked to social security.
These union elections thus mark an important stage in the organization of worker representation within the CNSS. Elected unions will play a crucial role in defending the rights and interests of social security employees, thus contributing to better social protection for all.
In conclusion, the victory of the CSC in the CNSS union elections in the DRC marks the beginning of a new era of union representation for social security workers. Let’s hope that these elected unions will be able to effectively defend the rights of employees and contribute to a more just and equitable social security
