The President of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly, Godé Mpoyi, was dismissed by a vote of the provincial deputies of Kinshasa. This decision comes after a motion of no confidence initiated by MP Mbonzi wa Mbonzi of the MLC party. Of the 41 elected officials present, 34 voted in favor of impeachment, 3 voted against and 4 abstained.
The dismissal of Godé Mpoyi follows reproaches addressed to him concerning the abuse of power and the mismanagement of the Provincial Assembly of Kinshasa. The deputies reproached him in particular for the arrears of emoluments of the provincial deputies as well as the problematic financial management of the city of Kinshasa.
This dismissal testifies to a tense climate between Godé Mpoyi and the governor of the city of Kinshasa, Gentiny Ngobila. Relations between the two personalities were tense, but they had recently made a gesture of reconciliation by shaking hands in front of a few provincial deputies and provincial ministers.
This dismissal decision marks a turning point in the governance of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly. The provincial deputies thus hope to establish a new dynamic and better management within the deliberative body.
It remains to be seen who will take over from Godé Mpoyi and how this dismissal will affect the functioning of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly in the future. Case to follow.
