Title: Training on human trafficking case management: strengthening the fight against this global scourge

Introduction:

Human trafficking is a global crime, affecting millions of victims every year. Aware of the urgency of the situation, the Coordination in charge of youth, the fight against GBV and human trafficking, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the financial support of USAID, has launched a training workshop on human trafficking case management. This event, which started on Wednesday July 5 in the province of Kwilu, aims to strengthen the capacities of frontline actors involved in the care of victims of human trafficking.

Global Context of Victims of Human Trafficking:

According to a joint study by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the IOM, more than 50 million people worldwide are victims of human trafficking. These people find themselves trapped in trafficking networks, suffering various forms of exploitation such as forced labor, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, organ trafficking and many more. The situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is particularly worrying, hence the need for urgent action.

Training aims:

The objective of this training workshop is to enable participants to master the general context of human trafficking, as well as the principles, techniques and instruments of case management. Front-line actors, such as social workers, will thus be better equipped to support and care for victims of human trafficking. Moreover, they will be able to share their knowledge and skills with their respective colleagues, networks and sectors.

Involvement of partners and organizations:

This training project is made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Coordination in charge of youth, the fight against GBV and human trafficking, the IOM and the support of USAID. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is particularly concerned by the situation in the DRC and is mobilizing to fight against human trafficking in the country. Ely Thelot, IOM Technical Adviser, stresses the importance of this training program for social workers in Kwilu province, particularly in the face of the numerous cases of human trafficking identified.

Towards better care for victims:

The specialized training in human trafficking case management will last three days and will also take place in other provinces of the DRC, namely Kinshasa and Haut-Katanga. The objective is to improve institutional capacities and expertise in the fight against human trafficking, in order to ensure better support for victims.. The presence of this training in the province of Kwilu is an important step in the fight against this scourge which affects many vulnerable people.

Conclusion:

Human trafficking is a problem that affects millions of people around the world, including in the DRC. The implementation of specialized training on the management of cases of human trafficking is a crucial step in improving the care of victims and combating this scourge. Partnerships between different organizations and financial support from USAID are essential to carry out these actions. It is essential to strengthen the capacities of front-line actors, such as social workers, so that they can best support victims and contribute to putting an end to human trafficking
