Mr. Kanzoka Ngwatala, identified as the head of the Cité Belge police sub-commissioner, committed suicide by firing two shots at himself in his house. Unfortunately, he died a few minutes later from his injuries.
The announcement of this suicide was made by the spokesperson for the Congolese National Police in the city of Beni, Nasson Murara. The news of this tragedy caused deep sadness within the police community and the local population. The body of Mr. Kanzoka Ngwatala was transported to the morgue of the Beni General Reference Hospital pending the results of the investigation.
This sad event highlights once again the difficulties that police officers can face in the performance of their duties. Stress, work pressure, precarious working conditions can sometimes have tragic consequences on their mental well-being.
Supporting and educating law enforcement on mental health and wellness issues is essential. Psychological support measures and suicide prevention programs must be in place to ensure the health and well-being of those who keep us safe.
In these troubled times, it is important to remember that every life matters and no one should be left alone to face their own demons. It is time to act to prevent such tragedies and provide adequate support to all those who need it.
