“Shock revelations: the DRC calls for sanctions against Rwanda for its military support to the M23”

The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains determined to continue its fight against Rwanda’s military support for the M23 terrorists. A recent report by UN experts highlighted Rwanda’s role in the ongoing aggression in North Kivu province, causing the deaths of thousands of Congolese civilians and the massive displacement of populations.

In an official statement, Congolese government spokesman Patrick Muyaya called on the UN Security Council to take severe and exemplary sanctions against the Rwandan officers involved as well as the M23 leaders. These measures are necessary to bring justice to the victims and prevent any impunity for those responsible for these crimes.

In addition, the Congolese government has invited the Security Council to support the implementation of the Luanda roadmap, which aims to restore peace in eastern DRC. It is essential that all stakeholders fully engage in this process to achieve a lasting solution.

The Congolese government has also welcomed the decision of the UK Court of Appeal to consider Rwanda an unsafe country for sending asylum seekers. This decision confirms concerns about human rights violations perpetrated by the Rwandan government, which presents itself as a mediator while continuing to attack the DRC and create new displaced people.

UN experts also revealed the names of senior Rwandan army officers involved in supporting M23. Among them are General James Kabarebe, former Congolese army chief of staff and defense and security adviser to President Paul Kagame, as well as other key officers. The evidence gathered clearly shows their role in coordinating operations on Congolese soil.

Despite Rwanda’s denials, the evidence is undeniable. It is time for concrete steps to be taken to end impunity and put an end to Rwandan support for M23.

In conclusion, the Congolese government continues to seek UN sanctions against Rwandan and M23 officials. It is essential that justice be done and that measures be taken to restore peace in eastern DRC. The international community must support these efforts and take concrete measures to put an end to this intolerable situation
