The security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remains worrying, with the persistence of rebel groups and interference from neighboring countries. To resolve this crisis, the Congolese and South African leaders reaffirmed the importance of the diplomatic channel during a joint press conference in Kinshasa.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stressed that the resolution of the conflict requires negotiations involving the various parties concerned. He also stressed the importance of the involvement of regional organizations, such as SADC (Southern African Development Community) and EAC (East African Community). According to him, Angola plays a crucial role in resolving the crisis and promoting dialogue between the parties.
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has also expressed his support for diplomatic channels and regional mediation efforts. He stressed the need for a peaceful approach to end the conflict and expressed his desire to work together with neighboring countries and regional organizations to find a lasting solution.
Despite diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the EAC and SADC, the situation on the ground remains complex, with the continued presence of rebel groups. The regional EACRF force has recovered some rebel strongholds, but actions on the ground remain insufficient to end the conflict.
With this in mind, the Congolese government decided to turn to SADC and obtained the support of the international community for the deployment of troops in eastern DRC. This decision aims to strengthen regional efforts and bring lasting stability to the region.
It is obvious that the diplomatic way remains the best option to resolve the security crisis in the East of the DRC. Negotiations and dialogue between the parties concerned, supported by the involvement of regional organizations, are essential to achieve a peaceful and lasting settlement. It is now essential to materialize these efforts and put in place concrete measures to guarantee security and stability in the region.
