“DRC: The diplomatic channel supported by Rwanda remains the best solution to resolve the security crisis, according to the South African president”

The diplomatic way to resolve the security crisis in eastern DRC, supported by Rwanda, remains the best option, according to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. During a joint press conference with his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi, Ramaphosa expressed his support for a framework of negotiations to resolve the conflict.

The two presidents shared their common view on the situation in eastern DRC and agreed that the involvement of SADC and the East African community was necessary to achieve a peaceful resolution. Ramaphosa stressed that the conflict was an aggression and that the parties concerned must be brought together around a negotiating table. He also mentioned the involvement of Angola in the resolution of the conflict.

The security situation in eastern DRC remains worrying despite the efforts of the regional force EACRF to stop the advance of the armed group M23. Rebels continue to operate in the region, frustrating regional diplomatic initiatives. In this context, the DRC turned to the SADC to obtain a deployment of troops in the east of the country.

The exact date of the deployment of SADC troops is not yet known, but the recent summit in Namibia validated this initiative. The Congolese authorities hope that this intervention will strengthen security in the region and contribute to the resolution of the conflict.

It is essential to find a peaceful solution to this security crisis, which is having a devastating impact on the civilian population in eastern DRC. Diplomatic negotiations and dialogue between the parties involved are key to achieving a lasting resolution.
