“Call for Proposals: USAID Commits to Countering Disinformation and Hate Speech in the DRC”

The fight against misinformation and hate speech has become a major issue in our connected society. With the proliferation of information on the internet, it becomes increasingly important to be able to distinguish facts from opinions and to prevent the spread of hateful content. It is in this context that USAID is launching a call for proposals targeting Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working in the media sector.

The objective of this call for proposals is to fight misinformation and hate speech while promoting social cohesion, with particular attention paid to the inclusion of the most vulnerable. Young people, women, people living with disabilities and members of indigenous communities are essential actors in the democratic debate and must be fully integrated into the electoral process.

This call for proposals is addressed to CSOs present in different provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Kinshasa, Haut Katanga, Lualaba, North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, Tanganyika, Tshopo, Kasaï Central, Kasaï Oriental, Mai Ndombe and Equateur . The maximum budget allocated to these projects is 35,000 USD, thus making it possible to implement concrete actions to counter misinformation and promote social cohesion.

Interested CSOs can submit their 7-month project proposal by the July 12, 2023 deadline. It is important to meet this deadline in order to participate in this USAID-supported initiative.
