The peace football tournament in Masisi-Centre, in the province of North Kivu, ended with flying colors this Friday, June 30, 2023. Association Sportive Masisi won the final against AS Bitobolo, winning the title for the fourth consecutive year. This competition, which aimed to promote peaceful coexistence and social cohesion, brought together a dozen teams from different parts of the region.
The deputy president of AS Masisi, Honoré Luutu, expresses his satisfaction after this victory and wishes to congratulate the organizer, Valentin Kaneno, for his continuous support towards the youth. He stresses the importance of this annual event which brings together, shares and deters young people from joining local armed groups. Luutu also appeals for fair play towards other teams, reminding that peace must be the key ingredient in their territory.
In turn, Valentin Kaneno Hangi, initiator of the tournament, is delighted with its success and stresses the importance of this gathering to promote peace, peaceful cohabitation and social cohesion. He warmly congratulates all the teams who responded to the invitation, regardless of their community or ethnicity, recalling that unity is essential for the construction of a Masisi envied by all.
During the award ceremony, the following eight teams received awards in the form of jerseys, balls and a large sum of money as encouragement from the initiator: Nyabiondo, Lukweti, Mahanga, Buabo – Kanii and of course AS Masisi and AS Bitobolo.
This peace football tournament was therefore a real success, both in sporting terms and in terms of the message of peace and social cohesion that it conveys. It demonstrates once again that sport can play a major role in building a peaceful and harmonious society. All participants and spectators were able to enjoy moments of brotherhood and exchange, thus strengthening the links between the different communities.
Congratulations to AS Masisi for their victory and to all those who contributed to the success of this tournament. Let’s hope that this great initiative will continue in the years to come, thus encouraging more young people to commit to peace and social cohesion in their region.
