Haute couture fashion show to raise awareness about vitiligo
Vitiligo, an often misunderstood and misunderstood skin depigmentation disease, was recently highlighted during a haute couture fashion show organized by the Agence Franco Congolaise du Vitiligo (AFCV) in collaboration with the Vodacom Foundation. This event was held on the sidelines of the International Day of Vitiligo celebrated on June 25.
The objective of this parade was to raise public awareness of this disease and to combat the prejudices and discrimination that people with vitiligo often face. Indeed, these people are often stigmatized and considered to be the object of bad luck or witchcraft, which pushes them to hide their illness.
Pamela Ilunga, President of the AFCV, said at the event: “The vitiligious men and women are no longer going to hide and their disease. They will proudly display their disease in the eyes of the world. So we say proudly vitiligious and proudly vitiligious “. This assertion testifies to the desire to break down prejudices and show that vitiligo is not inevitable.
The Vodacom Foundation, partner of the event, also played an important role in raising awareness through a campaign to identify people with vitiligo. Thanks to a digital platform, more than 3,500 people have registered in the cities of Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, thus demonstrating the extent of this problem in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
By supporting this haute couture fashion show, the Vodacom Foundation wishes to promote diversity, the acceptance of differences and the creation of an inclusive society. Indeed, by celebrating diversity and highlighting those with vitiligo, it is possible to dispel myths and reduce the stigma associated with this condition.
The Vodacom Foundation is committed to social actions in key areas such as education, health and inclusion for all. By accompanying the AFCV in this event, it contributes to the social well-being of the Congolese people by creating a society where each person is treated with respect, dignity and empathy.
This haute couture fashion show to raise awareness about vitiligo is a commendable initiative that brings to light an often overlooked disease. By breaking down prejudices and celebrating diversity, it is possible to create a society that is more inclusive and respectful of all
