Samuel Nimi Mbumba successfully closes the March 2023 session of the Kongo-Central Provincial Assembly

In a speech marking the end of the March 2023 session, Samuel Nimi Mbumba, vice-president and interim president of the Provincial Assembly of Kongo-Central, gave a positive assessment of the activities of the deliberative body. In front of his fellow provincial deputies, vice-governor Grace Bilolo, members of the provincial government and the provincial security council, he highlighted the significant achievements of this period.

One of the strengths addressed by Mbumba is parliamentary oversight. He revealed that the Provincial Assembly of Kongo-Central has created 8 parliamentary control commissions, the reports of two of which were examined in plenary. The recommendations made were forwarded to the provincial government for implementation. This testifies to the desire of this deliberative body to ensure transparency and good management of public affairs.

With regard to legislative production, the Acting President highlighted a few edict proposals considered during this session. He mentioned in particular the proposed edict on the development of cities and territories in the province of Kongo-Central as well as that on the provincial policy of control and fight against pollution and nuisances. These initiatives demonstrate the Provincial Assembly’s commitment to promoting socio-economic development and environmental protection.

Apart from these achievements, Samuel Nimi Mbumba touched on hot topical issues during his speech. He announced the withdrawal of confidence from two members of the office of the Provincial Assembly of Kongo-Central following a petition signed by 30 provincial deputies. This decision bears witness to the deliberative body’s desire to preserve integrity and ethics among its members.

Overall, the March 2023 session of the Kongo-Central Provincial Assembly was productive and marked by significant progress. This testifies to the commitment of MPPs to serve the interests of the people and to work for the development of the province. Samuel Nimi Mbumba firmly stressed that the Provincial Assembly will continue to work for the well-being of the population and the consolidation of the rule of law
