“Animated closing of the session of the Provincial Assembly of Maniema: What prospects for the political future of the region?”

Final act at the Provincial Assembly of Maniema: closing of the ordinary session of March 2023

The March 2023 ordinary session at the Maniema Provincial Assembly was officially closed on Thursday, June 29. A ceremony chaired by the president of the office of age, Claude Makonga Foremane Idi, marked the end of this eventful session.

In his closing speech, the president of the office of age recalled that this session did not know parliamentary activities because of the political negotiations in progress. However, he pointed out that the office did its best to handle day-to-day matters with promptness.

Despite the difficulties encountered, Claude Makonga Foremane Idi called on his colleagues and the population to cultivate peace in this election year. He also expressed the desire of his office to allow the Provincial Assembly to have a permanent office, a mission that remains to be accomplished.

It should be recalled that the Provincial Assembly of Maniema has been facing a crisis since November 2022, following a series of petitions against the members of the office. This crisis led to the establishment of an age office in November 2023.

Despite the obstacles encountered, the ordinary session of March thus came to an end, giving way to new perspectives for the Provincial Assembly of Maniema. The political situation remains tense, however, and it is now up to the various actors to work together to find lasting solutions and ensure the proper functioning of this essential institution.
